“Viewer or end user?”

People working in the internet and information technologies industries prefer to call viewers “end users”. The main reason for this is that the last owner of the service or product presented is the “end user”.

In our situation end user is a much more suitable jargon compared to viewer. Because people don’t just watch IPTV, they use the product and benefit from the interactive opportunities at the same time. Apart from benefiting, they share these interactive domains and create serious amounts of marketing opportunities. I don’t know if it ever grabbed your interest, but do you remember seeing any ads about Facebook, which reached over 500 million users? Yes, as you can imagine neither have I, because there was no such effort. While Facebook was reaching that user amount, it let its own viewer create the content. This way, people who created the content,marketed Facebook while sharing their information on their pages. IPTV is also a structure which has these opportunities. IPTV users are at the same time advertisers and marketing employees who market these opportunities to other people. In IPTV, the end user is also an opportunity. The more viewers you have, the more powerful you become. What we mean by this is, unlike in standard broadcasting, IPTV won’t be using the power of capital, but the power of the end user.

To give an example from Twitter, this is the same deal as a celebrity having two hundred followers while a non-celebrity has two thousand. This is why traditional media needs to educate itself on the internet and the IPTV channel. To be frank, content is what determines which channel will be watched. But capital holders and their power aren’t effective in creating the content. IPTV will gain power and brand name from its viewers. The end user is one of the most important parts of the system, because they own the content. Therefore, content other than what the end user wishes for will only be required at the first stages, and will dissipate in the long run. Of course end user having this power won’t grant them every opportunity. The existence of moderation tools in our country will supervise especially the content created by the end users. Accordingly, content editors will be present. In short, the end user doesn’t have the right to do whatever they wish, but still is one of the most effective parts of the system. Rising above the capital in order of importance is a clear indication of this.

An important detail: The differences between the end user and the viewer

From the viewpoint of the end user, there is a distinction to be made. Who should be called a viewer, and who should be called an end user? Viewer only watches the visual and keeps their thoughts to themselves, while the end user watches, comments and changes the content. This differentiation made to strengthen the content and the brand. This is why IPTV literacy is more important than other types of literacy, such as the digital platforms, the internet and the computer. This is because people do their public service with the content they create in IPTV. They should know of the responsibilities this situation brings, or they will be seriously harmed by the effect of the moderation.
